Custom Embroidered Patches Los Angeles

Premium Thread & Detail

Real embroidery has weight. Stop settling for flat, cheap threads that fade in the sun. We stitch high-tensile polyester that digs in, holds on, and looks expensive because it is.

Whether you’re branding a startup in Silicon Beach or outfitting a security team at the Port of LA, embroidery is the standard. It’s classic. It survives the wash, the sun, and the job site.

The Classic Standard for Uniforms, Brands, and Clubs

In this town, appearance is currency. A flimsy patch on a uniform tells people you cut corners. A solid, tight weave tells them you’re established.

We don’t outsource the thinking. We check your art for “thread-ability.” If your text is too small (under 4mm), we tell you before we run it. We don’t just hit the green button and hope for the best. We make sure the final product looks like the design you fell in love with on the screen.

Why Choose Embroidery Patches?

Unmatched Durability & Texture

Printed patches are just ink on fabric. They crack. They fade. Embroidery is physical. The design is stitched into the structure of the backing. It doesn’t peel off.

The “3D” Raised Feel

You get a natural lift with thread. The logo pops off the garment. It creates shadows and highlights that flat vinyl just can’t mimic.

Classic Merrowed Borders

You know that thick, roped edge on a Boy Scout badge? That’s a Merrowed border. It’s an overlock stitch that wraps around the edge of the patch to seal the fabric. It prevents fraying and gives the patch a finished, heavy look.

Customization Options (Build Your Patch)

We build these to your specs. Here is what you need to decide before we fire up the machines.

Embroidery Coverage: 50%, 75%, or 100%?

50% embroidered custom patch showing the fabric background in the sky for a classic textured look.

50% Coverage

The text and logo are stitched, but the background is the bare twill fabric. It’s flexible and cost-effective.

75% embroidered custom patch with increased thread density and more vibrant sunset colors.

75% Coverage (Standard)

We stitch the main elements and maybe a background pattern, but leave some breathing room. This is the sweet spot for corporate logos.

100% embroidered custom patch with full thread coverage for a premium, high-density finish.

100% Coverage

Every millimeter of the patch is covered in thread. It looks like a tapestry. It’s stiff, heavy, and premium.

Border Styles: Merrowed vs. Heat Cut

Merrowed (Overlock)

The standard round or square border. It’s thick and durable.

Heat Cut (Laser)

If your design is a skull, a shield, or jagged text, we can’t use the Merrow machine. We use a hot knife or laser to cut the precise shape. It seals the edge instantly.

Thread Options

We stock hundreds of colors. We can match your Pantone. Want metallic gold? We have it. Want neon green that glows under blacklight? We have that too.

Backing Options for Every Application

How are you attaching these? Don’t guess.

Iron-On (Heat Seal)

?
There’s a layer of dry glue on the back. You hit it with a heat press (or a household iron), it melts, and it bonds to the fabric. Pro Tip: Great for hats and merch. Bad for waterproof jackets (nylon repels the glue).

Velcro (Hook & Loop)

?
Standard for tactical gear and military. We sew the “Hook” side (the scratchy part) onto the patch. We can supply the “Loop” side (the soft part) if you need to sew it onto your gear.

Peel & Stick (Adhesive)

?
It’s a temporary sticker. Use this for a one-night event, a convention name tag, or a backstage pass. Do not put this in the washing machine. It will fall off.

Serving LA’s Embroidery Needs

Law Enforcement & First Responders

We handle department specs for police, fire, and private security. We know the difference between “Gold Mylar” and “Metallic Gold” thread. We get the badges right.

Motorcycle Clubs (MC Colors)

We respect the code. We stitch rockers and center patches that hold up to wind and road grime. We use heavy buckram, so the patch doesn’t wrinkle on a leather vest.

Corporate Branding & Workwear

From HVAC uniforms to tech startup hoodies. We create consistent branding that makes your team look like a unit.

EMBROIDERED
★★★★★
“We tried three other shops before this, and the gold metallic thread always looked cheap or frayed at the edges. You guys nailed the density. The crest actually looks heavy and expensive. The detail on the feathers is crazy.”

PVC / GLOW
★★★★★
“I was skeptical about how bright the glow would actually be, but these things pop. The rubber is tough, too. We took the gear out for a field test in the desert last week, dragged it through grit, and the patches didn’t peel or crack. Solid kit.”

★★★★★
“The 3D effect on these wings is insane. It adds so much value to the hoodie compared to a flat print. Usually, PVC feels kind of plastic and cheap, but this feels premium and soft. We sold out the drop in 24 hours.”

BULK PRODUCTION
★★★★★
“We needed 5,000 units for a company-wide rebrand, and I couldn’t risk a customs delay from overseas. Being able to send a courier to pick these up in Torrance saved my life. Delivered two days early, and I haven’t found a single loose thread yet.”

“Getting that authentic varsity letterman look is harder than it seems. Most online shops send you something that looks flat. These guys got the ‘fuzz’ and the height right. It looks vintage but feels brand new. Perfect for our costume department.”

WOVEN LABELS
★★★★★
“Our logo has a tiny grid pattern that always turned into a blob when we tried to embroider it. The team suggested switching to Woven Labels instead. Total game changer. Crisp lines, readable text, and laying flat on the hem without scratching.”

The Technical Guide to Custom Embroidered Patches

You don’t need to be an embroidery expert; that’s our job. But you should know what you’re paying for. Here is the breakdown of how we build a patch from the inside out.

The Anatomy of a High-Quality Patch

A patch isn’t just a thread. It’s a sandwich of materials engineered to survive.

Buckram (The Skeleton)

Ever wonder why a good patch stays flat and stiff while a cheap one crinkles up like a used napkin? That’s the Buckram. It’s a hard, starched mesh we put on the back before we stitch. It stabilizes the fabric so the needle doesn’t distort the shape. If you’re sewing this onto a leather vest or a heavy jacket, you need a double buckram.

Poly-Twill (The Canvas)

We don’t stitch into thin air. We stitch onto a substrate called Twill. It’s a polyester fabric with a diagonal weave. It’s tough. It doesn’t shrink. When you order “50% embroidery,” the colored fabric you see in the background is the twill.

The Digitizing Process (The Blueprint)

You send us a JPEG. Our machines can’t read a JPEG. We have to “Digitize” it. This isn’t just clicking a button. A human digitizer has to plot the path of the needle. We have to account for “push and pull”, the way the thread naturally distorts the fabric as it tightens. If the digitizer is bad, your circle comes out like an oval. We get the math right.

Embroidered vs. Woven Patches: Which Do You Need?

Clients confuse these two all the time. Here is the rule of thumb:

VS

Classic Look

Choose Embroidery if:

  • You want texture.
  • You want that classic, 3D raised feel.
  • You want a Merrowed border.
  • It looks traditional and expensive.

High Detail

Choose Woven if:

  • You have tiny text (under 4mm height).
  • You need to hold insane detail.
  • Embroidery thread is too thick for your design.
  • They use thinner thread and are flat and smooth (like a clothing label).

Care and Washing Instructions

Embroidery is tough, but it’s not invincible.

Cold Wash Only: Hot water can shrink the garment underneath the patch, causing the patch to ripple (pucker).

Turn Inside Out: The metal drum of a washing machine acts like sandpaper. Protect the threads.

No Bleach: Polyester is colorfast, but bleach is aggressive. It can weaken the backing glue.

Frequently Asked Questions about Embroidery

Design & Color

Can you embroider gradients or fading colors?

No. A thread is one solid color. It’s not an inkjet printer. To simulate a gradient (like a sunset), we have to “dither” two colors, stitch them close together so your eye mixes them. It looks chunky up close but fine from a distance. If you need a perfect photo-realistic gradient, buy a Printed Patch or Sublimated Patch.

How small can the text be?

4mm (0.15 inches). Any smaller and the loops of the thread close up, and your “A” looks like a blob. If you have a disclaimer or legal text in your logo, we will likely recommend increasing the patch size or switching to Woven.

Options & Backing

Do you offer “Puff Embroidery” (3D Foam)?

Yes. We slip a piece of foam under the thread to make the design stand out huge. You see this on baseball caps (like the “LA” Dodgers logo). It works best for simple, bold letters. It does not work for detailed crests.

Does the “Iron-On” backing work on everything?

No. It works on cotton, polyester, and denim. It does not work on nylon (rain jackets), leather, or waterproof tactical gear. The glue won’t stick to the chemical coating. For those, you must sew it on.
